ELIMINATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS CAUSED BY WASTE CONTAINING ASBESTOS IN THE AREA OF OGRODZIENIEC COMMUNE

PPUH VIG Sp. z o.o. was the leader of a consortium who was realized liquidation of hazards related to waste containing asbestos under a liquidated plant Przedsiębiorstwo Materiałów Izolacji Budowlanej “IZOLACJA” in Ogrodzieniec. The facilities of the liquidated plant were described as one of the five largest “ecological bombs” in Silesia.

 


Our company dealt with the disposal of waste, demolition of facilities and also reclamation of an illegal waste dump of asbestos.

The project assumed restoration of the plant area for redevelopment the first stage of works consisted of cleaning up the buildings and the area from the materials and waste containing asbestos (it was about 2 440 m3). The waste was taken to a hazardous waste landfill. Throughout the entire period of works, the environment was systematically monitored.


The second stage of works is demolition of 18 building objects of PMIB IZOLACJA with a total cubature 64,178 m3 and also demolition roads and squares, removal of generated waste and leveling of the area. In this area there were located halls and other technological facilities (silos, chimney) after the production of asbestos-cement materials.


The task of the second investment was reclamation of the illegal waste landfill of waste containing asbestos. This task include preparation of the area of ​​5,733 m2 (cutting trees and shrubs), construction the 2-meters layer which covering waste (from 125,560 m3 of soil, including 5,200 m3 of humus), stabilization of the western slope of the facility, unplanting the soil and compacting it with heavy equipment, spreading a 0,1 m thick of humus layer and sowing the grass mixture along with fertilization.
